Teenage Wasteland
Donny is basically just like any other normal teenage kid. He is lazy. I know I am lazy sometimes when it comes to school, but I am not as bad as he is. I don't understand how you could be that disruptive and have no drive to do anything at all. Obviously if my parents were worrying that much about me, then i would take into consideration what they said, but Donnie does not seem to care at all. There are times I do bad in one class, but I always ask if I don't understand. That is why I didn't like Donnie. I dislike people that just give up. If he gives up at school, he'll end up giving up o nthe rest of his life. Later in the story Donnie does end up letting his parents get him a tutor, which is a huge mistake. I don't see how you can be a tutor and think it is actually helping the kid out if you have so many distractions like that going on. There was just too much going on around Donnie at one time. I know if there were kids being loud and playing music around me when I was trying to get help I would probably flip out. The tutors house kind of freaked me out. It was like all the kids were being possesed to go there or something. It seemed ok at first, but if you think about it it is just weird. Donnie's parents end up making him leave, which is best for him, but then I get the feeling that he goes back.

Donny's tutor is weird. I don't think you can even call him a tutor. He didn't help Donny's grades at all. What kind of tutor is that? When you said that it annoys you when Donny doesn't try, you really hit the nail on the head. I cannot stand people that don't even try. They could do so well in school if they wanted, but they just do not care. The way I look at it, if you have to go to school, might as well try your best. There is no sense having to retake a class that you have failed. Why not pass it the first time you take it? The whole situation with the tutors house was kind of creepy. This older guy was hanging out with a bunch of young kids. This can only bring trouble. I actually think that he is some type of cult leader, although his students do not know this. He gets inside their heads and makes them believe what ever he says.
I completely agree with you, I am lazy to, but he takes it to an extreme. Also, if my grades start to slip I get out of the lazy phase. He could have probably done very well in school but he chose not to do his work. I agree with Cody when he says that the tutor is weird. He just seems like a scam artist to me.
I did think that Donny was just a whining teenager. He had no ambition and he just didn't care. It was realy annoying. I think that going to Cal was really bad for Donny. Instead of teaching Donny how to accept the consequenses for his action, he taught him that he could do no wrong. Cal just made Donny's attitude worse. I don't think Donny went back to Cal when he ran away. I think he might have felt betrayed by Cal when Cal didn't object to Donny's parents taking him out.
